Shara Worden is a very petit woman, and I have seen her perform as My Brightest Diamond on stages both large and small. No matter the size of the stage or the room, when she wants to, she can become larger than them all. Shara is impossibly engaging. Whether with humor or drama or simply the shear magnitude of her voice, she will comand your attention and you won't want to look away or risk a word at the peril of missing something incredible.
During this session, she performed three songs from her 2008 release A Thousand Shark's Teeth and the album's iTunes bonus track The Gentlest Gentleman. The album's tracks were originally concieved to be performed with a string quartet, so seeing them performed in this manner was a treat indeed. Hearing the songs performed with such simplicity was still truly a visceral experience.
Shara is a talented songwriter with a professionally trained, operatic voice. Her arrangements and songs are playful at times, always touching and innovative, plus she'll seemingly give just about any instrument a try. You feel her bold and daring nature at all times. Despite her diminuative physical stature, she could be on her way to becoming the biggest female presence in indie rock today.
