I'm sorry, but this song is a fucking mess. Ignoring the lack of a guitar solo, nothing works about this. I've never had too much of an issue with Lars' drumming (at least studio wise), but this is awful. It's punchy, unbalanced, overpowering, and sounds like a child hitting trash cans. The tone of the song jumps so often I'm surprised my neck hasn't taken the route of Gwen Stacey and snapped like a twig. You have the main riff which sounds like Slipknot trying to be Cannibal Corpse, followed by verses soft enough to make even Nickelback say it's light. James Hetfield's vocals are at their most obnoxious and shouty, to the point where it sounds like he's trying to be Tom Araya. And the chorus of the song is built around the line 'I'm madly in anger with you', quite possibly the stupidest thing I've heard in a chorus. This sounds less like a song, and more like a middle finger to the people who wanted Metallica to stop going the mainstream route that the 90s had taken them. I imagine something like this is what non metal fans hear when they listen to metal songs, and I don't blame them. What the fuck, Metallica?

Metallica play on stage even better than on their fucking CDs; if that's even possible ;))) Went to their concert in Paris (with Slipknot as an opening - fucking amazing). Love what they did for the hardcore inmates of Saint Quentin: Respect to That. Anger could get the best of us but we can transform our anger into positive initiatives. Good People do their Best for all those they Love.
