A word like "ass" is more of a cultural thing, representing Christ doesn't have much to do with that. The only people that's likely to offend are Christians.

I know a lot of people have problems taming the tongue but from what I've heard, he used to be a Youth Pastor and he's a public figure representing Christ. Just doesn't look good.

Actually, the song is about his move to Nashville. He was living in California going to Chico State at the time and went back to his home state of Oregon after school was out for the semester and summer and one of his childhood friends asked him to help him move to Nashville which he agreed just going along for the ride but when he got there it was so beautiful he just called his parents and said he wasn't coming back. Thats what Mat said himself and is quoted as saying many times in interviews.
