Evokes such strong imagery of Edinburgh, especially this time of year with the "haar" rolling in. A walk, in the fog, through Old Town, under the Edinburgh Castle at night and I guarantee you will feel like something from the past just comes and stares into your soul.

Mark Knopfler is the reason I put down the guitar pick about 5 years ago. I have discovered a world of beautiful tone using my right hand fingers. If you are new to guitar (or old like me!) - I recommend learning how to finger-pick your chords and melodies. It takes longer to get precise and to produce the volume you want but wouldn't you like to sound like Knopfler - right??

The thing is that talent and ingenuity has little to do with the list that they made. They primarily made the list as a list of the most influencial guitar players... if you read the articles for each guitarist, they mostly concern how this person inspired others. Their title (greatest guitarsts of all time) is damn misleading, though. Just don't take their work super seriously - they didn't put The Wall on the top 50 current live-acts either, but instead had the likes of Taylor Swift.

"...cold on the toll gate with the wagons creeping through" Is a taxi rank? Master genius of similes and metaphors.

To appreciate this song ( which is about Edinburgh) you have to have experienced this place, especially during the Festival. Some city, some song and one of my favourite guitarists.

What is so amazing about Mark Knopfler being solo is, you still get the sound and brains that made Dire Straits.
