I haven't listened to this song for quite a while. It has a distinct melancholy about it. The melody perfectly gives a feeling of impermanence and therefore death. No one wants to die alone. The youth can't imagine dying, they see themselves as immortal. But death touches all our lives sometimes in the most shocking and cruel ways. Some never recover and become empty souls just waiting to die. It's a tragedy. Life really is the valley of the shadow death. It's indiscriminate and will take some buds before they ever bloom, by disease by accident, by war, by sexually depraved men.The world is a truly horrible place. To some sensitive types living in this world is a torture but it is preferable to suffer a lonely existence truly, suffering from the evil they witness everyday than to commit suicide and add to the misery of surviving loved ones. We call them empty souls, but they're just lonely tender and anxious. They are the meek who shall inherit the earth. Richey was an empty soul!
