As much as I loved Lou Reed, I have to say that this is a truly horrible version of the song. It appears on an album which is a tribute to Weill who wrote the melody. Maxwell Anderson wrote the lyrics. So it doesn't make sense that Reed doesn't sing the melody but rambles the lyrics. Did he think that he was recording a tribute to Maxwell Anderson? I have this album on vinyl but I rarely play it. It's really badly conceived.

In my opinion, Lou Reed's rock version of September Song is the best version period. Also it is my favorite Lou Reed vocal song although it is not really well known as sung by him since, I believe, this version was never released on one of his albums. This version is much, much better than the version of September Song which was released on one of his albums.

For anyone interested in this disk, there  are some copies available through Amazon [used] for as little as $20 American. Prices rise steeply from there. My version is considered a 'collectable' and worth considerably more. I'm not attempting to shill for anyone, but some of you inquired as to where one might  find this Lou Reed version.
