Agreed! "Lou Reed" is mostly a weaksauce album, but this is the standout track for sure. Meanwhile the "Berlin" version seems incomplete without the rest of the album following behind it. In all other ways though, "Berlin" trumps "Lou Reed" with its arms behind its back.

This version was released on his first solo album, "Lou Reed," almost two years prior to "Berlin." So this is indeed the original version of the song. Evidently he had the concept hiding in this song, and he made it bigger and scarier as he developed the album from it.

The original version was from Lou's first solo album, which is this version. The album Berlin came out 2 years later and also had a version of this song.
