I think part of the problem with this song's video isn't really the song itself (although the line "And everything I see will end up killing me" is a little contrived) it's the composition of the video. Mr. Astley has no clue what to do with his hands in this video, he's given a guitar that he clearly doesn't know how to play, and he's put on a fake stage for a fake "live performance" set of shots that only culminate in that really cool moment where everyone pulls their phones out. I think if you gave this to an LA Music Video producer this song could be a hit but the pure cheesiness of this video alone kinda deters people I think. His voice is unique and fantastic but the production on the video is what I think kills the song and detracts from what could be a very heartfelt video. Just my opinion though. I love the song itself, but the video is kinda cruddy.

filming this video had to be surreal for him because its literally acting out what hes felling think about it walking into an empty stadium singing his first new single in 17 years. but honestly i dont think there was any more of a perfect way to do this video
