It's called being sick and/or tired. It has nothing to do with integrity. I am a keyboardist/vocalist who sings in his range and I will probably so about 250 gigs this year. Some nights, your voice is shot, especially if you are at the end of a long string of gigs and/or sick. Some nights, you sound good and you are on it. Rest has a lot to do with that. He has to go out there and do his job whether he is 100% or not. It's his job. We have all went to work and gotten paid to do our job when we aren't at our best. It happens. The guy had a bad string of gigs vocally probably trying to recover from being sick because this tour hasn't gone on that long. The first thing that goes when you are sick as a vocalist is your range, and believe me - it sucks. I am sure Michael was more frustrated than anyone at the fact that people paid good money to see him and his band and he wasn't up to par because he was sick. He is one of the best and has been for a really long time. Sure, he is in his 60's and a few notes on the top of his range have gone, but when he is healthy and on it he is absolutely one of the best that there is. Nobody can get tone like that guy when he is on it. No one.

I don't know what happened to Michael McDonald's voice or integrity but I just saw his Greek Performance eon 8/7/2014 and he was awful. He not only could not hit any of the higher notes, but he could not hit any medium range notes, his voice cracked constantly and he actually gave up singing at one point.I observed how he very skillfully avoided the microphone and turned his head each time he knew he could not hit the notes. He relied heavily on back-up vocalist and instruments. As the third song began people were streaming out complaining. As a vocalist who has performed in the past, I feel there is no honor in faking it.Michael - If you were sick cancel. If not and your time has come it is time to bow out gracefully. There is no purpose in ripping off your fan base asking us to pay premium prices for tickets then disappointing everyone. I would rather he had cancelled the show as it's clear how little integrity the man actually has.I just learned a friend in Virginia saw a performance of his months ago - same performance. I do not understand how these wonderful reviews keep appearing on the internet when it is quite apparent, for whatever reason, this great artists singing days are over.Skip any future concerts and stick with your old CD collection. If you truly love Michael McDonald don't go to see him live.

The funny thing about this was they co-wrote the song, and now they are both performing it.
