The Florida "Sunshine Sound" Was King During The 1970's. KC & The Sunshine Band Had Hit After Hit Until The End Of The Decade When The Disco Craze Came To An End. After "TK" Records Had Folded, The Band Signed With Epic Records. Our Featured Song Was Actually First Released On Epic In 1982 On The LP "ALL In A Nights Work". The Album Did Poorly In The USA.....But The Single "Give It Up" Became A Big Hit In The UK. KC Felt The Song Should Have Done Much Better Here In The States And Asked Epic Records To Release It Again. They Said No. So KC Re-Released It On His Own Record Label Called "MECA" And The Record Took Off....Climbing The Billboard "Hot 100" Chart To #18 In Late 1983-Early 1984. Sadly, "Give It Up" Became The Last Hit For KC And The Sunshine Band.

That bassline, where are the classic basslines these days. I can't recall a single one in the past ten years. This is a floor filler at every party and club I go to.

This song did a great job of modernizing KC sound for the early 1980's. I read a few years later he got screwed over some royalties that were owed him and had to fold his own company.

With new wave music at it's peak in the mainstream at the time this single was released on Meca it really had little chance of being a top 10 hit honestly. With acts like the Thompson Twins, Eurythmics, etc. with that "80's sound" KC's days were behind him. Great tune though, I have the 12" single on Meca. Good dance mix.

I'm so old I could have been your father when this came out. We'd sing along to it at work and all the girls would dance around. It was like having an extra little energy boost between breaks. The boss' didn't seem to mind a bit.
