HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND R.I.P. Jerome Smith (June 18, 1953 – July 28, 2000) was a guitarist at TK Records in Miami, Florida, who was a member of KC and the Sunshine Band. His rhythm guitar playing was a key part of the band's propulsive disco sound, first gaining international attention on George McRae's hit recording of "Rock Your Baby" (for T.K.) in 1974.Smith's high-pitched, restless guitar solo on "Get Down Tonight", KC and the Sunshine Band's first US #1 single, resembled the sound of a synthesizer. It was achieved by speeding up the solo guitar track against a normal-speed rhythm guitar track in the studio. With the group he recorded five No. 1 songs, including "That's the Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty" and "I'm Your Boogie Man".He was also sought after as a session guitarist, playing on 10 albums by the disco burlesque artist Blowfly and touring in America with the Australian group the Divinyls. In the 1990s, he contributed to the soundtrack of the television series Melrose Place. He died on July 28, 2000, in an accident on a construction site in Miami where he was working as a bulldozer operator

Time for position # 3145 on the supplemental supplemental survey. This choice was not an easy one. As noted somewhat earlier, depending on one's mood, one's emotions, one's feelings, any of these songs at almost any level of the charts, perhaps with the exception of the Top 25, may switch order on a daily basis. When one is in a positive frame of mind, this one is an easy listen. When down in the dumps, this may help bring some people out of it, but most others will need some sort of medication as a simple song just will not do it. The song tends to make one want to get up and dance. The DJ's used to play it at the Bar Mitzvahs of the eighties and nineties (that is the 1980's and 1990's but you know that - otherwise Arthur Collins might be the performer and he is not) - from KC and the Sunshine Band, at # 3145, now what is the name of this one again? Just kidding, it is "Get Down Tonight" and I think I might get up and move around perhaps a little. Get funky.
