Album: Leftoverture

Released in: 1976

Lyrics:

I'm woven in a fantasy, I can't believe the things I see

The path that I have chosen now has led me to a wall

And with each passing day I feel a little

more like something dear was lost

It rises now before me, a dark and silent barrier between,

All I am, and all that I would ever want be

It's just a travesty, towering, marking

off the boundaries my spirit would erase

To pass beyond is what I seek, I fear that I may be too weak

And those are few who've seen it through to glimpse the other side,

The promised land is waiting like a maiden that is soon to be a bride

The moment is a masterpiece, the weight of indecision's in the air

It's standing there, the symbol and the sum of all that's me

It's just a travesty, towering, blocking out the light and blinding me

I want to see

Gold and diamonds cast a spell, it's not for me I know it well

The treasures that I seek are waiting on the other side

There's more that I can measure in the treasure of the love that I can find

And though it's always been with me, I must tear down the Wall and let it be

All I am, and all that I was ever meant to be, in harmony

Shining true and smiling back at all who wait to cross

THERE IS NO LOSS

Watched the documentary of them on paladium last night...very good and extremely informative. I always liked Kansas...and prog rock in general (rush, yes...even mastadon lol) anyway I thought it was great. Kerry is an incredible songwriter!

The introspection of this song has always been uplifting and very emotional to me."All I am, and all that I was ever meant to be"Life is such a small time capsule in the scheme of things. As individuals, we are not even specks within the reality of the grandeur we all perceive through our senses. As far as human history goes...my first breath and my final exhale...will go unnoticed like billions upon billions of others of our species. Though I must admit...it is wonderful to breathe my speck of all that engulfs me in our physical universe. My "moment is a masterpiece"! To me! :-)That is just my Left over..."ture"!

Walls are part of this life. The limits we place on ourselves hold us back. As humans, we limit ourselves, believing lies like, "this as good as it gets"., or "you're wasting your time trying". You are amazing by design! Nothing is beyond inspiration. If you do what you love, you'll never be empty, every day is your gift......Be Amazing!

Each and every member of this group were all musical geniuses, especially Kerry Livgren and Steve Walsh! Steve has one of the most beautiful voices in rock history. And Livgren??? Jeez, his musical IQ is off the chart. Leftoverture was their signature album, but Masque was better, IMHO. I can never hear "The Wall" too much. It is gorgeous and a musical masterpiece. And the lyrics are haunting and brilliant. This Kansas lineup was absolute perfection!

He still is, just a little more raspy and, of course, not as powerful as he used to be, but that's pretty normal considering his age and the fact that he not only did drugs for years but also had a few surgeries in his throat ;-)

Livgren didn't find "religion," he found Christianity - this is what offended Walsh. Kerry's spiritual quest took him down several roads as his lyrics reflect over the years (his auto-biography). In the end, does it matter how they're labeled? Great band, great music!!!
