From 100 Hundred Strings and Joni

Released in 1959 and recorded at Abbey Road studios London Arranged by Geoff Love and Tony Osborne.

Each time I see a crowd of people,

Just like a fool I stop and stare,

It's really not the proper thing to do,

But maybe you'll be there.

I go out walking after midnight,

Along the lonely thoroughfare,

It's not the time or place to look for you,

But maybe you'll be there.

You said your arms would always hold me

You said your lips were mine alone to kiss,

Now after all those things you told me

How can it end like this?

Some day if all my prayers are answered

I'll hear a footstep on the stair;

With anxious heart I'll hurry to the door,

And maybe you'll be there

Now after all those things you told me

How can it end like this?

Some day if all my prayers are answered

I'll hear your footstep on the stair;

With anxious heart I'll hurry to the door,

And maybe you'll be there

Floppy sunhat

I listen to this 100 strings and Joni album (this track is one of my favourites) every night for many years. Joni's voice is like a rainbow that brightens up the dullest day. The orchestration is oh-so-romantic and lush. It carries my soul to a perfect rapture.

@Corrie121 Thanks to Gordon's great writeup here, I know WHY the orchestration is so drop dead gorgeous here! Geoff Love became better know soon after as 'Manuel & the Music of the Mountains'. Great music owes so much to the orchestrators/arrangers who get left in th background 7 forgotten too often. My channel is a tribute to over a century of the great music they've created on over 700 playlists, by artist, genre & release year. Hope you have a chance to stop by again soon! chuck
