This is one of Johnny Gill's first recorded songs from his 1983 self-titled debut album "Johnny Gill". It's amazing to hear how mature his voice sounded even at the young age of 16. This song was made around the same time New Edition was recording such songs as "Popcorn Love" and "Is This The End" on their first 1983 album. Hearing young Johnny's voice you can almost imagine him in the group in their teeny-bop days.

with Freddie Perren, Clarence McDonald, Cornelius Mims, Carmen Twillie

(C) 1983 Atlantic Records

@Stardomchild in fact, there was the guy in my neighborhood. he was from new orleans and he sold weed. a "dope boy" type. saggy and skinny...anyway he was always hanging around my gay friends. i always thought it was to sell weed....one of them told me one day he asked one of them to do him....that is bend HIM over ....a "thug" wanted to be on his back. so don't be fooled

@miamivicepastels83 Yeah, our people (especially black women) just don't seem to be getting it yet! It's not the effiminate looking types that are infecting black women with HIV from destructive unprotected sex through DL behavior, it's the thuggish, hardcore, masculine types. I know because my uncle is gay and he schooled me to it all. It's no joke out here ladies, don't be fools!

@slimsxyblkwoman tell them....it seem like if a man is not a "thug" he gay. or if he seems to at all care about women or be soft and sensitive then he's gay. so sad

no offense but johnny wasn't 16, he was more like 14 because when he came to new edition he was the youngest and in 1983 the people in NE were 14 and popcorn love was recoreded in 1982

Hey this is formally known as Azone01. Going back to the comment I made 8 months ago about the song, I think for a young 16 year old R&B crooner, his voice would have been more suited for the production work of Mighty M/Hush (Kashif and Paul Lawrence Jones) or Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (matched the maturity voices of Kashif, Lillo Thomas, as well as Alexander O'Neal). The producers he had here were great, but Kashif and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis would've made him more marketable.

I can't believe it. When I tell people about this song by Johnny Gill, no one believes me. I always thought this was a great song, cuz I was 10 at the time. Since then, he has made exceptionally wonderful songs.

Feminine Treasure

lalachanel - First of all, the boyish/feminine look was common place in the eighties (i.e., Prince, Micheal Jackson, The Debarge)! Second of all, your comment was really uncalled for! You are one of the MAIN REASONS why so many black men are fucked up; walk around trying to fit into that hyper masculine mode because dumb-asses (such as yourself) think that a certain look defines manhood or one's sexuality! Gay or not, it doesn't diminish his talent nor his accomplishments!
