"The Long Black Veil" is a 1959 country ballad, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell.

It has appeared on "Orange Blossom Special" (1965), "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison" (1968), "Classic Cash - Hall Of Fame Series" (1988) and "Unearthed" (2003).

Johnny Cash also performed the song on the first episode of The Johnny Cash Show (TV series) in 1969, duetting with Joni Mitchell.
