Slaves used to sing this in the cotton plantation fields before slavery was abolished. Most black folks consider this song very racist. I don't blame them.

This is a "traditional" song recorded & popularized by Leadbelly...but not written by him.

No blessing on America, because of the blood, sweat and tears of slaves who worked on the fields around the country.

Lead belly wrote the song which a had a black man in the band. Johnny just sang the song so he wasn't racist.

Some were indentured servants, some were slaves. However, in the case of Indentured servants sometimes it was considered worse because you were essentially someones bitch. Slaves were property, you had to take care of your property, indentured servants owed someone something, and didn't require the same attentiveness. Legally slaves always had less rights and harsher penalty though. Both types of servitude were fucked up though, both needed to be eliminated from social standard.

It was Indentured servitude not "Slavery", I've done my research. You need a History lesson.

Um there are actual documents that there were Irish/Scottish slaves before blacks and they was treated worse. They were not giving living courtiers and majority of them starved. I did my research go do yours.

actually the irish and scottish "slaves" were indentured servents not slaves lol Some might have been treated like slaves but the vast majority had it 100 times better than "black" people.

Enough with the damn comments about whether Johnny is 'allowed' to sing this song. Music is universal and to say that any one song or type of music has to be performed by only certain people is exactly what most musicians fight against. Let's just enjoy the damn music.
