If I recall correctly, the album liner notes mentioned this version was recorded at a performance in a Swedish prison? Recently found this disc again and played it for my kids and wife. There are some very good songs on that album, but this song and Hardin Wouldn't Run are my faves.

Well actually Johnny Cash HATED prisons, but he did have compassion on some of the prisoners. THANKS for posting this - love the song and especially this version!

@genemullett Yes, that's the one, it's suprisingly hard to find on here, but sounds much nicer than the other version, both in vocals and backing sound as you mentioned:).

Is this the version from the "Love, God, & Murder" box? It's so much better with the fiddles than it is the the extra guitar. This song has really become one of his underappreciated treasures.
