Cash was inspiring but damn he butchers every song he remakes into just crap....

He's inspiring kids to be tramping bums. As a tramping bum myself, I fucking love this. Go hitchhiking, America!

I thought I had heard all JC songs but this is a new one to me--Thanks Dennis. I can always count on you to play me some CASH music

It's odd how they changed the lyrics to make them more, "kid friendly," but left in the part about cigarette trees.

Is that Ron Howard at the very end there?

Johnny Cash may be my favorite country singer, but I like Burl Ives's version better.

I love the original version, but this is the version I remember. Until "O Brother, Where Art Thou" that is...

The melody seems off

The only reason he did a different version was because kids were there, what would you expect?!

Nevermind he wrote it in 1898.

Recording was in its infancy in 1898 Edison Columbia and Berliner were about all the phonograph companies in that day. Who recorded it in 1898? Country/folk wasnt recorded until the 1910s so it would be a big deal to have been recorded in 1898

god, you people are idiots. the song is about an ideal paradise for a hobo. most back then, and even now, have nothing to live for but cigarettes and alcohol. if you people have children, i seriously hope you dont supress and censor their childhood. this song got me thinking as a child, and gave me hope. the thought of paradise being "just over the hill" has always been a driving and motovational concept, and it's good for people, and especially children, to have something to look forward to.
