Written by Steve Goodman (Go Cubs Go), and made famous by Arlo Guthrie in 1972, this version, sung by Jimmy Buffett (With accompaniment by Mac McAnally), was recorded at the very first concert ever played at Wrigley Field (Cubs Park) in Chicago, 2005, while sitting in the right field bleachers, as an encore.

The reason it was so emotional, as well as why Jimmy was wearing a New Orleans shirt was the fact that this was just days after Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast.

I am very proud to say that I was at this concert, watching it live. What an experience at Wrigley!

I first heard this song sang by Willie Nelson (get guy very nice) I like Jimmy's cover also! I love most of Mr. Buffets music it's fun up beat and Fruitcake's is probably my favorite. We are all Fruitcake's in one way or another

Buffett very seldom mentions the writers of some of his music.. KJust found out 'Door Number Three" was also written by Steve...

I grew up in Chicago, Steve and I grew up in the same neighborhood. He's as good as it gets. A true AMERICAN songwriter Never got to know him, he was a little older than me, but I worked for his Mom sometimes. She was great. He was just the cool, mellowest guy. So sad to lose him so young; he was just getting started.

@radh20 Back in the 70s, the train from Chicago to New Orleans was called the "Panama Limited". I think Amtrak changed the name to honor the song and songwriter; at least I like to think so.

Nice to see that JB sang the song the way Goodman wrote it. Hard to fathom that it has been 27 yrs since Steve Goodman died. His music still sounds just a good today as it did back then. Need to buy a new turntable so I can play my "Somebody Else's Troubles" lp. CD just isn't the same as vinyl with a Shure pick up and my Ultralinear speakers. :)
