Listen to the late Glenn Cornick's bass on this. Glenn gave that early Tull sound so much elasticity, and him and Clive were the band's best ever rhythm section. Beggars Farm was one of the best tracks Jethro Tull ever recorded, and what a sound they had back then.

October, 1968. Upstate New York, in the country. Early morning, 7:15 a.m. Still chilly out, meeting up with my friends. Helping a friend with farm chores. Hands stinging from the cold. This is the image this song conjures up. I would play it in my head.

What a great song. Thank God for YouTube. I bet it has been since the mid to late 70's that I have heard this song. My older brother had the 8-track and we listened to this on the way to the creek where we swam as kids. Someone please tell me what happened to those wonderful days? The days of Atomic Rooster,Them,Budgie,Thin Lizzy's first record and just the trips to the swimming hole listening to King Crimson and Yes. Ahh those were the days. Oh and I was too young for beer and weed.

One of the greatest Jethro Tull tracks that really marked them out as something different, and arguably the highlight of their wonderful debut This Was. I always preferred this to the chugging riff of Aqualung's title track, also about beggary....
