When you focus on Emmylou you can hear how good she is on this, its the recording set up that was at fault. However for me Jerry did not need her on this, its one of his greatest recordings.

I so agree although I don't know the comment you are replying to. Emmy Lou was the best at harmonies - George Jones was blown away at singing with her and Rodney Crowell is still there. Nothing wrong with her harmonies and his frowning looks are more, to my mind, to do with lust than her putting even a foot wrong. This is a great, as you say, Honky Tonk piano version of this song and the sweetly young Emmy Lou goes along with it but Linda Ronstadt's version gives this song its full due.
