"Need To Belong" released in October 1963, only made a mild splash in the music industry and had the executives at Vee-Jay Records concern with the now stereotyped Butler with his balladeer type singing. This song did not chart on the R&B Chart a fact seen early by Vee-Jay's A&R musical director Calvin Carter. This record only reached #31 on the Pop Chart.

Must have confused everyone when this record didn't connect. One of the greatest of all.

It IS The Impressions on background vocals. And Curtis is playing guitar. So, after Jerry left the group as lead singer, he didn't REALLY actually leave at all...'Cause he was still recording with them !!!

Vee jay Records A&R musical director Calvin Carter demonstrated his lack of musical acumen. A sad legacy to follow a myopic "musical dorector" into the 21st Century.
