From "Looking East" (1996)

Running down around the towns along the shore

When I was sixteen and on my own

No, I couldn't tell you what the hell those brakes were for

I was just trying to hear my song

Jimmy found his own sweet sound and won that free guitar

We'd all get in the van and play

Life became the paradox, the bear, the rouge et noir

And the stretch of road running to la

Pages turning

Pages we were years from learning

Straight into the night our hearts were flung

Better bring your own redemption when you come

To the barricades of heaven where I'm from

All the world was shining from those hills

The stars above and the lights below

Among those there to test their fortunes and their wills

I lost track of the score long ago

Pages turning

Pages we were years from learning

Straight into the night our hearts were flung

Better bring your own redemption when you come

To the barricades of heaven where I'm from

Childhood comes for me at night

Voices of my friends

Your face bathing me in light

Hope that never ends

Pages turning

Pages torn and pages burning

Faded pages, open in the sun

Better bring your own redemption when you come

To the barricades of heaven where I'm from

Better bring your own redemption when you come

To the barricades of heaven where I'm from

Man, Jackson Browne lyrics are Poetry put to Music. Always one of my favorites, most of my friends are clueless to his talent.

At the lowest time in my life, I bumped into Jackson Browne music and his music has made the rest of the trip with me. He is like no other musician and song writer. There is something in his music for everyone, no matter what your circumstances are.

He sang a beautiful song during Christmas time some years back that was on the 700 Club, maybe in the late 80's if I can remember correctly, and I wished I had found out the name of the song, I assumed I'd hear it again but I never have. I know it was beautiful though and hope to hear it again.

I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to have discovered JBs music in my late teens. His msg in his music as well as his humanitarian projects/views have influenced my life in a positive way.I feel at age 62 that I owe a large part of my life to the man.

BEAUTIFUL song. The man is a poet. He is one of the few artists who reached the magical quality which bar was set so very high by the best who came before him. And the musicians.......simply outstanding.
