"I Met A Friend Of Yours Today" is a good song from George Strait's "Lead On" album. As the third track it sets a trend picked up by a number of songs on the album in how the music and tempo act as ironic counterbalance to the lyrics. It was written by Bob McDill and Wayland Holyfield.

This recording is property of George "King of Country" Strait and MCA Records.

Good to see the Mel Street songs covered by the likes of George Strait. Mel Street was as good as they come......these latter day singers would do well to cover his songs.........George does a good job!

I like George Strait. He's real country. But I have to say, this version is nowhere near Mel Street. I see a comment below about trying to cover a Mel Street song and must agree - tread carefully, because you are sure to fail. This song is OWNED by Mel Street. In some ways, its like trying to cover George Jones. You can't do it.

I love this tune as I do ALL of the King Of Country's BUT I HAVE TO SAY as the song tells the tale...You go looking for trouble and you'll find it every time. He should of never stopped by that bar for a drink and went straight home...LOL!

I agree with you 110%. Today's Country is mostly JUNK. We got to enjoy the best in the 40's, 50's and 60's. It will never be the same.

I think George did Mel proud. One heck of a song and yes TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC is slowly fading. I have no desire to listen to this new junk they call country with the line dance mess and all that garb.

If any Country artist records a Mel Street song, they'd better do it right and not mess it up or give it hype. Mel Street was not about hype. His songs were all from the heart and soul and George Strait, with a genuine respect and high admiration for Traditional Country Music did this song exactly the way it should be done. Mel Street would sure be proud to hear that. Many artists of Traditional Country Music have recorded Mel Street's songs and very few, if any, have messed them up.

George sings about what has happened in a persons life. He nails it.
