George Harrison originally performed the song with a solo acoustic guitar and an organ; a demo version, longer than the officially released version, can be heard

on the Anthology 3 album and in reworked form on the Love album. Eric Clapton, who was a good friend of George, played lead guitar

on the album version of the song with a Gibson Les Paul guitar. On The

Concert for Bangladesh, he performed it on a Gibson Super 400 hollowbody

guitar, and later acknowledged that a solid-body guitar would have been more

appropriate.

liryc:

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know why nobody told you how to unfold your love

I don't know how someone controlled you

They bought and sold you.

I look at the world and I notice it's turning

While my guitar gently weeps

With every mistake we must surely be learning

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know how you were diverted

You were perverted too

I don't know how you were inverted

No one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

Look at you all...

Still my guitar gently weeps.

For me, George Harrison's greatest song. The song tells us how the songwriter sees hope in mankind because people have love.“I look at you all, see the love there that’s sleeping.”But people’s love are not expressed and so the songwriter plays sad songs.“While my guitar gently weeps.”The songwriter knows that without love the world has become a mess. And continues to play sad songs.“I look at the world and I see it needs sweeping.” “Still my guitar gently weeps.”The songwriter does know why people are not taught about love.“I don’t know why nobody told youHow to unfold your love.”He thinks powerful people have a hand in not preaching love,Using money instead of love as the message.“I don’t know why someone controlled you. They bought and sold you.”As life (and the world) go on, the songwriter is convinced that learn and we slowly move forward.“I look at the world and I notice it's turning. While my guitar gently weeps. With every mistake we must surely be learning.Still my guitar gently weeps.”He laments that people have been misled from the truth of love. And that our nature has been corrupted, our thoughts opposed to the truth. And that nobody has shown this to us.“I don't know how you were diverted. You were perverted too.I don't know how you were inverted. No one alerted you.”The songwriter repeats that he sees hope in mankind because people have love. “I look at you all, see the love there that’s sleeping. While my guitar gently weeps.”Then emphatically invites that people look into themselves and their fellowmen.“Look at you all!”

Nick Fucking Minaj? Seriously? Skrillex? Justin Fucking Bieber? One Direction? There's no argument against a mastermind such as George Harrison. This is true music. And fuck your "political correct" replies like everyone has a taste or some bullshit like that. If you have a brain, and you still use it regularly, you'll use some of your time to listen, JUST LISTEN to this. Fuck, i wish i was born in the 60's.

I always loved the version on the White Album but, my, this stripped back version is just beautiful. The older I get, the greater the number of George Harrison tracks on my favourite Beatles songs list.
