A great showcase of flat-wound strings against round-wound strings.

Flat wound sounds cooler.

I have short fat fingers so many of the notes I have to hit involve sliding. By using flats I have found it eliminates that string squeak between notes. I have a fender J-bass and I think I'm going to keep my flats. I may be sacrificing some of the brightness of rounds but the irritating squeak to me is more distracting.

Everyone in metal is playing rounds and I haven't had any experience with flats.I'm hella worried about the transition now, and the time to change my strings is coming near...

Mr. Rumblin Man, so the Flats strings are for more of a smooth jazz sound, like you hear from the weather channel?

"Bass" your decision on what type of music you will be playing. Rock on Rumblin man, and thank you for the no-nonsense, informative video.

With fingers I liked the flatwounds more but with a pick I prefered the roundwounds !

The flats just straight-up sound more like a bass, if that makes any sense at all (probably not, but who cares?)

The flats sound more brighter, mid range and the rounds sound darker and deeper. Is that what everyone else is hearing?

This video really makes me want to buy some flats for my jazz bass, do you have any recommendations for brands? Since i got a Squier bass i would think Fender would probably fit the best, but i have no experience whatsoever with flatwound strings.

Thanks for doing this video. I've always loved the feeling of flats but have been concerned I was missing out on something from wounds. This video shows me that flats sound just fine. I'm using TI flats on a Jazz bass.
