The song was written as a dedication to people who have lost their lives with AIDS. It talks about a sick son who's had a contentious relationship with his dad throughout life, possibly because he was gay. The father eventually comes to terms with his illness and before the son dies seemingly reconciles with each other. The official video used to be here on YT but like a lot of Vids, they've been removed....

Sung with such vehemence here. I can't imagine how this song could not touch one person's soul; particularly this performance.

You could tell he was trying not to cry at the end after he looked at the audience.

What passionate words. Parents should love always their children unconditionally. The damage that is caused when a child does not feel loved especially by a mother and father who are their first loves in this world. Brings tears to my eyes. Elton you will always be the very best.

The piano music in this performance is much more complex than on the album and truly fits the song. Sir Elton John is an extremely gifted performer!

I got this song from the moment I heard it. Having a brother who died of Aids, I can relate to words. I saw Elton John perform this song in 1995 three years after my brother died. I think some how my brother had something to do with Elton John playing it that night. It is not one of his typical songs that he performs. Always brings me to tears.

until three days before I did not know this song, then I watched an old movie called "And the band played on" when AIDS was discovered, and the magic happend...I love Elton, I love his voice and now...I love this beautiful, beautiful, beautiful song; a father can say he do not love his son because he has discoverd that he is homossexual, but at the end of all earlier or later the love always is the winner; thank you Elton for this lovely song!
