I have listened to most of those bands that you mentioned and I do like some of them. And I can't deny that they sound more generic nowadays but imo their music still has something unique that other bands don't have. I still like their newer stuff very much too and I disagree they are shit. But I do love more their older stuff like the three first albums. I wouldn't even consider today Dimmu black metal and the genre's not important. They have good melodies and good sound.

I guess, they are a gateway band to black metal but new Dimmu is shit (Death Cult to present). Not because they "sold out", but because they sound so generic. Once you listen to enough black metal and all their sub genres you realize it too. I could name tons of better symphonic black metal bands that are way better than new Dimmu. Old Man's Child, Lamia Antitheus, Limbonic Art, The Kovenant, Emperor, Graveworm, Dragonlord or Opera IX. The problem with new Dimmu is they have no real identity.

I started with new Dimmu, it was easier to open the whole black metal genre with this so-called "mainstream black metal" nowadays Dimmu is my favorite band and I especially love the three four albums. And black metal itself is nowadays music I certainly like listening to :) so people, don't diss new Dimmu. Their change has been useful in longer period.

I dont even think new supposed Dimmu Borgir fan even know about old Dimmu stuff. Look at the view counts compared to the older stuff. The newer shit is over a million or at least close to it and all the older shit hasnt even broke the 50k mark or at least most of it. What's up with that?

To me the drum comp is like in finnish national music called 'humppa' :D though of course it can be in punk also :P I can imagine myself dancing this.
