as for Mireille not enhancing her career, she is beloved in all of the european countries worth mentionig,Germany being one of the biggest Mireille fans since the start of her careerover 45 years ago,and still is very popular there and in Russia,China, Japan to name a few more.the reason she didnt become a superstar in the USA,is because she had the sense to realize they would have sexed up her image to acheive stardom there and she refused to go along with that.Bravo for that Mireille.

That is a fact. Not only that, countries under Communist regimes used to control the way women (and also men) dressed, the length of men's hair, and they held working and obedience ethics, too. However, I doubt this great singer and nice person was very concerned about all that.

She was never an intellectual. She probably tried to get along with anybody, any country, culture or ideology for professional reasons, (she sang in many different languages and did it quite well.)

The funny thing is that, despite her conservative views, she always had good relations with French Communist Party and CP of Soviet Union (she became popular there very soon; there is a nice video taken from a 1967 USSR New year Tv special where she sings Vien dans ma rue watch?v=Wr9lE1DCIzk), resulting mostly in concerts. I don't have anything against that, however, because I'm not exactly a communist nor an anticom.
