Not an original song, Neil Young may have written it for Dan as his version is poignant and meaningful. The last track of the last Album released after he passed. The clear first chord of the first track of To the Morning is moving. The many fans of his lyric poetry mean he lives on in hearts all over the world when his music is played. In my case every day for 35 years.

I can't listen to this again. It's so heartbreakingly bittersweet. I've tried to "condition" myself to it, but I cannot. I can't imagine him recording this, and his beautiful wife listening to it, knowing.

It's almost fitting that he found someone else to say his goodbyes don't you think? I would like to believe that when he decided to record someone else, in this fashion, this particular song, he and Jean were O.K. with tommorows comming- - - -:)

A little creapy how he ends this song on the beginning violins of "To The Morning". I get it- - - - but the legacy is so incredible, the music and lyrics so undenyably in a league and a class soooooooo by themselves ( can you think of anyone who even comes CLOSE to him?), that it will never be over. Not for me, never for me- - - - - - - .

When Neil Young sang this song it was beautiful. Dan's voice is so melodic and descriptive; given what he was facing, this version is beautiful and yet heart-breaking. Acceptance of the inevitable that we all must face someday. Reminds us all of loved ones lost and our own mortality. R.I.P my friend. Thanks

I've discovered that music is a language and it's one that you spoke fluently from the heart. The messages you conveyed through your music effected my life profoundly. This song is very hard for me to listen to. But I listen to it 3-5 times a year just to remember that this life is fleeting and temporary. And that one day, I too will fly away from those I love. But, I hope when that day comes, I will encounter your spirit and once again hear the music from your heart. Rest in peace Dan.

This broke my heart; it must have devasted Jean. I don't know how Dan could not sob while singing this goodbye, unless he knew he would soon be free from pain, in a place where there is no pain, physical or mental, no tears, no sorrow, no worry; what a perfect way to live on. Still, though, he is with me/us, through the many gifts he gave to me/us~ the gifts of song. I wish I had told him "Thank you for being my friend through so many years.

Love In Time says to me that Dan was happy; he had finally met, fallen in love with, and was happily married to Jean. So sad, that after finding one another, and oh, in so many pictures of Dan with Jean you can just see love radiating from his eyes, as well as Jean's. Love finally came to Dan; Dan had to leave this love behind. Heartbreaking...

It breaks my heart. Even though the words were from Neil Young, Dan recorded this~ when?? (Such morbid words, but, I would imagine Dan recorded this in one of his darkest hours, losing his fight against his cancer, and in his Dan way of singing as opposed to talking, perhaps he was telling Jean he would soon be gone. :,,,( I'm sure this must have broken Jean's heart; shattered it. I'm so glad she was with him in the end. Make Love Stay, Be On Your Way, The Last Nail, all show such lonliness....

This song got me through the death of my best friend. If he could have talked, this is what he would say.

It's so amazing to read these comments, and realize so many people are out there with the exact same thoughts about Dan, that I have. It makes me feel as though I have friends, that I'll never meet, but have known since about 1972.
