A privilege to know her...She was asked to perform a benefit New Years Day at San Quentin Prison. At the time, she was appearing at San Francisco's hungry "i". Carmen graciously accepted to do the benefit. My then husband (house bass player at the "i") also participated in the New Year's day festivities. I also went along that day. We drove over and back in the same car. So I got a real chance to talk with her. What a joy. She couldn't have been nicer. And with Carmen, you never knew just how you would be greeted. Of course the guys in the prison just ate her up!!! She did a dynamite set!!! There was no one like her!!
