From the album Hold Out (1980), this song to me is one of the best from the Godfather of Breakups.

Note for note, melody for melody, word for word everything about the song is just right except for a love gone wrong.

"You were meant to play your part

In the design of a desperate heart

And while you gave your love to me

I was betting I was getting it free"

"A debt that I owe

On a bet that I lost"

Hope everyone enjoys this song for all it's pain. Drop me a blog line..

I was young and in love when I saw you in Atlanta. What can I say? Thank you for bringing her back, even for these few minutes.

I fell in love with JB when i was 16- I am now 52. He is undeniably The MASTER poet. So conservative with the words he gets the message across without fail. Always. I love all his work and really love HOLD OUT even though it isn't one of his favourites. JB, Springsteen and Zevon- the soundtracks of my youth.

Great song, but is the mix off? Sounds like only one side is really playing at the right volume.

1981 Fall, I would hang out with the Basketball Frat Guys (Baseball Guy) and a bunch of young guys and girls would sing these wonderful JB Tunes from this release.

My dad met Jackson Browne in 71 in upstate NY after a concert. They talked guitars - both owned old Martin D 35s. He had just dropped his first album and my Dad knew every song telling Jackson "He was going to be big...bigger than he realized". Jackson gave him backstage passes for his East Coast tours for a few years. Some great stories, but I'm not talking /|\ I inherited the Martin.

In the evening. when you see my eyes, looking back at you.no disguise. I'm not sure who you think you'll see. I'm just hoping that you'll still know that it's me.

My father is a big fan of Jackson Browne. And now I AM also a big fan of him. His music is a great teacher for me. Great lyrics with his great healing voice. Sometimes even makes me tears.

This is one of his many songs that make my heart ache all over again! Yet, I keep listening to them!?! I guess its because it feels like he knows my heartaches & losses. It makes me feel I'm not alone in my pain.
