The Lady with the Fan 1933

Transcribed from Cab Calloway and His Orchestra, recorded November 2, 1933

She's the lady with the fan,

When she comes by, hold your man,

She made Smoky Joe so ginny

He forgot about his Minnie.

She's the lady with the fan!

She's the lady with the fan,

Can she dance? Yeah, man!

Every wiggle gets a giggle

From the hick who pays a nickel.

To see the lady with the fan!

She's the lady with the fan,

She's the lady with the fan,

She's such a grand attraction,

She put lazy-bones in action,

She's the lady with the fan!

She's the lady with the fan,

She's the lady with the fan,

In fair or stormy weather,

She shakes them both together,

She's the lady with the fan!

I found the 78rpm of this about 5 years ago and just love it to death. One modern equipment, it really rocks.

If someone would make a 30's jazz club,I'd join it faster than you could say 'hi-de-ho'

In the 30s, Cab Calloway was the second most featured uh....(Jazz singer?) on film-- second only to Duke Ellington. Tallented guy. Plus he was in the Blues Brothers. Lol

@BInRt Come to think of it, his subject matter in Minne the Moocher was pretty vulgar but the way he phrased the wording made it acceptable and witty. Nowadays tact seems to be lost on the youngsters.

@modenasolone Maybe not, but they're still related. The improvisational aspect of scat singing and the free style rapping ciphers of yesteryear are very much related to one another. See Nonameko for a great blending of the two genres, song is called "All of Me".

@BInRt Ya know despite the fact that you insinuated he was a rapper, in some sense he was! He flowed far better than a lot of wack MCs today;) hehehehehhehehe And those are some pretty yellowbones and redbones!

@BInRt I dont see how you can equate Cab Calloway to a rapper. Scat singing and rappering is not the same genre.

Back in the day, rappers had CLASS while rubbing against half-naked women in music videos.
