This was probably one of the most fun I’ve had making a music video ever! It’s always a good time working with my good friends at BeMoreMedia for the visuals on my projects. I always know I’m in good hands with husband/wife tandem director Luis Guanzon and stylist Anne Guanzon. My song “Its On” has such a feel good old school party vibe to it that the original concept was to have the music video mimic a house party in the 90s Kid N Play style. After much brainstorming we decided that we wanted to take an “outside the box” approach to this video. So we ended up with the concept that it would be a music video within a music video!Confused? Let’s break it down! As the music video starts, you see a ‘regular guy’ chilling at home watching TV. As he flips between channels we see C-Tru visualized as most celebrities are. I wanted to portray and poke fun at the different rapper stereotypes out there. From the serious artistic rapper, to the over the top MTV Cribs flashy rapper, it was fun acting in this video. To drive the message home to the viewer, at the end of the video we shot a scene where the doorbell rings and the ‘regular guy’ gets up answers the door and its revealed that this guy on the sofa was C-Tru all along. All the stuff on TV about him was just an act for the media and the real him is just like everybody else. Unfortunately the shot didn’t flow as well with the video as we hoped and it was cut out, but now you know the full story! I’ve been lucky to have met and worked with high profile artists and the first thing I always notice when getting to know them is that they are nothing like how they are portrayed on the media. So this music video is kind of like a homage to them.Just one last tidbit to share before I go . . . that MTV Cribs scene with me in the bathrobe in the beginning . . . looks comfy right? Nope! We shot the scene at a huge 3-story Venice Beach house with a private rooftop lounge. But let me put it into perspective, it was a sizzling hot and humid 90F that day and the air conditioning went out during the shoot. And if that wasn’t hot enough, the bathrobe was made from thick cotton material which made me feel like the 90F was really 100F so I wanted to finish that scene as soon a possible. Luckily it only took 30 minutes and the next scene was the rooftop lounge scene where enjoying chilled champagne with my friend and print/fitness model Franciele Medeiros was part of the shot! Saved from heat stroke LOL!Till next time!
