Lyrics :

Can you remember the times

That you have held your head high

and told all your friends of your Indian claim

Proud good lady and proud good man

Some great great grandfather from Indian blood came

and you feel in your heart for these ones

Oh it's written in books and in song

that we've been mistreated and wronged

Well over and over I hear those same words

from you good lady and you good man

Well listen to me if you care where we stand

and you feel you're a part of these ones

When a war between nations is lost

the loser we know pays the cost

but even when Germany fell to your hands

consider dear lady, consider dear man

you left them their pride and you left them their land

and what have you done to these ones

Has a change come about my dear man

or are you still taking our lands

A treaty forever your senators sign

They do dear lady, they do dear man

and the treaties are broken again and again

and what will you do for these ones

Oh it's all in the past you can say

but it's still going on here today

The governments now want the Navaho land

that of the Inuit and the Cheyenne

It's here and it's now you can help us dear man

Now that the buffalo's gone.

NOW THAT THE BUFFALO'S GONE

"Over and over I hear the same words..." This is so true. Selfinterest, greed and force have been winning over the interests of native common people everywhere. Idle No More.

"Don't project qualities she doesn't have? " Don't project Buffy Sainte Marie and her admirers into your cult of celebrity, you---the social critic on YouTube. So, Laurel Garza and others like her will make their mark in the world---unlike you, who probably reside in your Mother's basement full of resentment toward those who enjoy life and talented performers like Buffy Sainte Marie. That is NOT "infantile celebrity culture". Most people with more than three brain cells know the difference.

Get over being starstruck Laurel. There is more to life than the infantile celebrity culture. She's a very talented singer, composer and performer. From all accounts she's a wonderful person. Just don't project qualities onto her that she doesn't have. She wades up Cripple Creek one step at a time just like you. She doesn't walk on water. Go make your own mark on the world sweetie.

Saw her live in the mid-sixties at Hill Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. She finished with "Buffalo" and with real tears streaming down her cheeks. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life. I'm now 69 years old and still am ashamed of what my ancestors did to the Native Americans. Dennis Loomis

Takes me back to 1965. Buffy shared a place in my heart with Joan Baez and Bob Dylan

Thanks, that means a lot to me. I just always lose it when I see stupid and I should know by now to ignore ignorance but it's very hard to when it's so blaring! Again, thankyou for your kind words. And I was so lucky to see her in person, I will never forget it as long as I live. People offered me big money that very night she signed my album/record but I something better than gold and it was all mine. Still is.

She (or he) is not stupid, pjgumby, just mean, cruel, foolish and lost. Called a 'troll' nowadays. Probably doesn't have to work at it at all. Just lazy, you know. Buffy Sainte Marie is a genius, a soul sister and you are so lucky to have seen her in person. She's my idol, and I'm 63. True story. I'm on your side.

Are really that stupid or do you have to really work at it?

I have. I was only remembering a moment that I had at 16. I am 55 now. Did you think I haven't done a thing since this moment in time? I managed to make a baby, have several jobs, make a lot of paintings, write some songs, learn a craft or two, make a living, learned to vote conservative. You forget that this didn't happen yesterday, it happened a long time ago on an evening in 1974, life goes on. I was only recalling an experience that I had at that point in time, because it was so memorable.

These are the songs of my youth, and I remember them well. She was an idol to me. I even met her once and she autographed an album of hers that I had. Buffy was so cool. I was 16, will never forget it. I talked with her and told her of all the posters I had of her, I was stupid, forgot to bring a pen, someone supplied it, she signed them, only wish the moment could have lasted longer. But she was beautiful, kind, amazing, and nice to a young awkward star struck kid. She's still my idol!
