Max's Kansas City 08/10/72. Rare footage from Bruce Springsteen (solo). Bruce opened for headliner Dave Van Ronk and Doris Abrahams. The MC was Sam Hood, who booked Max's. This was the closing number. The only other footage from this show was the opening number, "Henry Boy".

Poignant. Heartfelt. An early look at the greatest American artist of all time. ...Personally it's the song that first made me listen to Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuce. 35 years later (for me, not from it being released), it is just as good. Thanks for posting this.

Very cool, but let's be real: He looks and sounds like he's in a Dylan imitator contest. (He would have won, no doubt.)

discovered this song thanks to "sprinsteen and I" documentary which I highly recommend! I'm not a fan of the boss but i gotta admit I was really impressed by the relationship people have with springsteen music, and Im going to look for more songs :)

i like this a lot, it's very young. you can tell he is a little nervous / not entirely in his element yet, but you can easily forgive him because he's so young and honest. growin' up is also a song which show and indeed is about having not quite found your feet yet, the more verbose lyrics of the greetings from album certianly reflect how springsteen wasn't quite sure what his music was really going to be yet, not to say no amount of the album comes from his soul. as far as i'm concerned, spirit in the night which was recorded towards the end of the album is what was springsteen's real first-step up the path he went.

...One of Bruce's 5 best songs. Thanks for posting this early performance. The intensity and level of commitment are evident. 40+ years down the road it is hard to find anyone who has continued creating new material at such a high level. I agree with John Fogerty's statement at Hard Rock Calling in London, 2012 when he called Bruce "America's greatest artist".
