Written by the late Betty Thatcher-Newsinger. Apparently this was about Annie Haslam's travelling around the world with Renaissance and never being home, therefore an ocean gypsy. Living in Cornwall was the right place for this amazing poet. Living there meant Michael Dunford who wrote the music, sending tapes in the post from London of his music and phone calls back and forth!!! Ahhh! The 70s!!!!6 years ago

I bet a lot of folks think this is a regular love song, talking about lovers who never fit a woman, until she finds that one man who she actually loves, but can never be with. It's actually about the moon, and how humans and their praise and devotion could bring her nothing, and she in turn could bring them nothing they asked for. But then she found the sun, and his brilliance reflected in her, and she shone brighter for all to see. But the sun and moon could not share the same sky, except for those fleeting moments of sunrise and sunset. So the sun gave her a thousand nights, which she would hold onto for dear life, waiting for that brief time with him, but would inevitably sink beneath the waves and have to wait until night once more. "Lovers" who can never truly be together. Metaphorical, but beautiful.7 years ago
