Track 8 on the Ben Folds Five Album 'The Sound of the Life of the Mind'.

This album is due to be released on the 18th September 2012.

Lyrics-

She broke down and cried at the strip-mall acupuncturist

While the world went on outside

The Chinese doctor took her arm,

Gazed at the floor and read her wrist for the secrets in her life.

'Here's your medicine,' she said,

'If you'll not smile at him, then someone else will.'

You hold that thought, and I'll hold that thought, too.

Ya-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

I was shown the 36 ways I'm not available

On the simple easy chart

Later on that evening on a beach in Santa Monica

It was a very risky start

Suppose this stupid chart is right

In a year will you still feel the same

Oh well, you hold that thought, and I'll hold that thought, too

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Ya-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Did you ever see the film where a man is given spectacles

That make the world look upside-down?

He falls about the place, but in time he somehow readjusts

And when they take the glasses off,

The eyes he's always had see sky below him

And he falls again

But you hold that thought, and I'll hold that thought

You hold that thought, and I'll hold that thought

You hold that thought, and I'll hold that thought

My fav on the album. Reminds me of driving around in early Autumn. I'll hold that thought, too.

One of the many highlights on a fantastic album. This reminds me of the Reinhold Messner era BFF - always a good thing

Fabulous tempo.

It is a 'train' song, with the name being inspired by the rhythm and brushed snare drum pattern. Such as John Mayer's "Stop this Train".

surprisingly hard to cover on solo piano, mainly because you have to copy both ben and then sledge too. Sledge and Jessie are outstanding players, that really set BF5 apart from ben's other projects

I thought this sounded like a Belle & Sebastian song first the time I heard it. But now that I read the comments about Simon & Garfunkel, I can definitely hear that as well.

:3 The beginning of the song always reminds me of the song when you're buying stuff on the Sims.

Anyone else getting a Simon & Garfunkel vibe from this? (only with piano rather than guitar)

Totally agree. I think what makes the BF5 stuff stand out from the BF solo stuff is that Sledge and Jessee contribute as band-members rather than employees, you know? A hired-gun, no matter how good of a player, has to keep the boss happy, and that inhibits creativity. The difference between The Beatles and Wings... :)

The thing that puts this over Silverman era projects is Sledge's bass line. He follows Folds so much better than previous recordings bass players. I get the Jesusland reference, but, dude, that bass is intelligent.

I think it's likely that most of the folks who consider this song a favorite will be those who have become fans of BF since BFF broke up... It sounds very like something off of "Silverman". Anyhow, I agree with everyone: It's a great record, and I'm so glad to have Robert and Darren back. The show I saw (the 1st of the tour) was great... And I also saw on Youtube a clip of them doing "Landed"... Awesome! I was hoping they'd do some of BF's solo stuff. Am I rambling? Yes. I'll shut up now. :)

My favorite song on the album! I can't keep myself from singing along when he goes "OOH OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH OOH OOH OOH OOH!"

I agree, it does sound a little like his solo stuff. In fact, the drum beat sounds just like "Jesusland" (from Songs for Silverman). Maybe that's why I love this song so much!
