The American's couldn't attack the north because of the Russian's and the Chinese, they thought if a soldier or officer got killed it would be WW3.

It was the rules of engagement that held the americans back, but what if US forces did get the order to invade the north, and won?, i think that wold have only pushed the comunists to WW3, vietnam was the coninuation of the cold war under the canopy of the jungle.

Does nobody here know how to provide a proper counter-argument?! If you're just going to keep avoiding my crucial point and try to bring up other excuses as to why the US pulled out of Vietnam, don't even bother.

The point of Vietnam was never to win territory and win battles. It was to keep Vietnam from falling under the communist sphere. No amount of firepower could've stopped this from happening, so the US gave up.

I think you're missing the point of Vietnam here. It's not about the battles. The US took the North and the VC to the cleaners every time. Every major conflict was a straight-up US victory. The Tet Offensive? Disaster for the VC and the north. The problem was that it seemed to drag on forever, and everyone in the south was either joining or helping the VC. The US were winning the war but politically, the Vietnamese were becoming more and more communist by the day.

FALLACYYYY You are failing to address the pinnacle issue here known as THE TET OFFENSIIIIIIIVE where the Viet Cong went all out with their remaining forces and even AFTER the U.S. had finally finished pulling out admitted that if the U.S. had pressed on after Tet then the U.S. would have WON! Any my point on Guerilla Warfare was that the U.S. ARMY as in the Command and Training would KNOW to train their troops to deal with Guerilla Warfare. But still, HEDGIIIIIIIIIIIING THE POINT!

You forget the Guerilla tactics in Japan in ww2. Thats doesnt make a soldier in VIETNAM 20 years later aware of that.

And I annunciate the Tet offensive because IF the guerilla tactics were working out so well, WHY would they mount an all out assault? Sure, the factor of catching the enemy off guard, but they could have delivered the same powerful blow they hoped to achieve with surgical strikes. Something doesn't make sense unless you consider just how outnumbered the Vietcong had been from the very beginning!

Half true. The U.S. had been dealing with Guerilla warfare since WWII. There were guerilla tactics employed by the North Koreans before China took part in the Korean war. And even then, the Guerilla tactics employed by the Viet Cong stopped mattering wheeeeen *THE TET OFFENSIVE* took place. After the Tet Offensive not only were they on the run, they were undermanned, and they were on the road to defeat. Vietnam was a fluke, and is testament to the blunder that is politics.
