The legendary movie "Der Kongress tanzt" (aka "Le congres s'amuse"/"Congress dances") revolutionized the movie musical... In this movie starring Lilian Harvey and Willy Fritsch, Lilian as Christl sings the song 'Das gibt's nur einmal' while driving in a carriage through Vienna and surroundings on her way to a castle. As she sings, the people alongside the road and working in the fields join her in the chorus of the song. This movie, directed by Eric Charell, became a tremendous succes and was made in a German, French and English version... The song, also known as Christl's song became as legendary as the movie... Charell had to leave Germany as did the composer Werner Richard Heymann and Conrad Veidt in 1933 and the movie was banned between 1937 and 1945.
Zarah Leander recorded her Swedish version in 1932...
