At the end of the refrain, the cello playing a simple melodic pattern (starting 1:10) against the almost motionless higher strings -- except for subtle note shifts every two bars by the violas -- was a brilliant idea. Simple but effective.

The evolution of the Beatles from making songs like 'She Loves You' and 'From me to You' to creating almost unbelievably sublime and haunting pieces like this was truly astounding. Credit also has to go to George Martin for turning the concepts and ideas that John and Paul had into real sounds and arrangements. . The only other band to reach this level of musical sophistication was the Beach Boys - or rather Brian Wilson. Check out the instrumental tracks of the 'Pet Sounds' album on Youtube.
