I found a chart on the net (sorry no cite/site but surely you can dig it up) that gives the difference (in studio recordings, optimal conditions) in vocal range between about a dozen modem singers. Elvis had the widest range, if I remember right. Anyway it was interesting that Paul and John had almost identical ranges, with Paul's going a few steps higher than John's and I don't think quite as low.
