I now know Nanci Griffith did a fine version of this but when I bought this Kim Carnes album years ago and heard this song -- this was the introduction I needed to the marvelous John Prine songwriting. Of course, my wallet emptied quickly with purchasing more Kim Carnes and lots of John Prine catching up. This version is equally wonderful.

Kim really outdid herself on "View from the House". I'm almost sad for all the people who have missed out on this amazing album. "Speed of the sound of loneliness" is just one of the MANY gems included on this late 80s masterpiece. If you don't already own this one... do yourself a favor, it's still rather easy to find on eBay (as opposed to most of her CDs).
