Loved this song since it was released. I have guitar book "Complete, Concise Beatles" but doesn't have this one. George was my fave of them, essential part of mix

I think he said he wrote it when he was sick for a few days, and he said, that is where he might have got the "don't bother me" part.

After never really thinking about the best song on With the Beatles (or Meet the Beatles) I now think this one is clearly the best track - at least IMHO.

George wrote the song but he sounds just like John Lennon, great song.

I think this song is not one whit behind the Lennon-McCartney originals on With the Beatles. George's compositional and musical talents were probably underutilized and certainly under-rated.

Wow, I think this version is better than the one that appears on the record! I always loved the beat on this one and that early 60's guitar sound like the Ventures. And George has some cool early 60's vocals on this one.

Here's something very cool for a Beatles fan. Go to truthcontest(.)com and read "The Present"

Was this vocal overdubbed afterwards or was it just done electronically? The reason I ask is that on the original mono LP that I had many years ago George's vocal sounded doubled - at any rate, great tune, was glad that it was featured on Meet the Beatles.

No other Beatle tune like it, my favorite early George tune. Also, this take (13) is definitely the one used on the American release. The cool part is that George's voice is trebled (three tracked) on the final recording which is what gives it that ethereal chorused quality that makes this song so haunting in it's final form. Very subtle trick, can only be heard if you slow down the tune without changing the pitch. Great stuff!

I think this is one of the best songs the Beatles ever recorded. I actually thought that Paul might've written it just because it is so good. In fact I was (mistakenly) thinking that this was one of Paul's best songs. So I am glad to know that George gets the credit for a great work that I am SO impressed with!!

I don't know, if you listen to the Decca Audition tapes you'd think Harrison was the most polished singer in the group. There's a reason they didn't use this take.
