Oh yeah ! Seven days without my girlfriend is too long. 27 years without Dexys was far too long too ! ;-)

So they "re-invented" the wheel - big deal! LOL

It's called re-invention, challenging an audience. Which, if you define yourself in a musical ghetto, you never break out of. Unless you want to stay there obviously.

@DMSD1888 Oh really? Then I suppose you prefer Bananarama covers to the Marvelettes, Paul Young to Marvin Gaye and think Yazz is superior to Otis Clay etc. etc. etc.? (Tch!)

Their cover versions are no more relevant than Darts' mangling of "Boy From New York City" IMO. Wrapping yourself in 60s Soul paraphanalia may give you a dubious street credibility to the pop buying public, but it's so transparent to me. If they were so committed to Soul, why the "gypsy makeover" the minute it suited them? They dropped the 'Soul' references the minute they'd milked it enough to get their "careers" off the ground, like so many UK bands before them.

Of course it's that. But it's good, and done by pomey lads to boot, performing something they obviously enjoyed which is what counts! That weird edge that's not quite 'Soul' is what attracted me to this in the first place. Why would i listen to more of the same when i can go and pick up my 60's soul compilation. It wasn't typical, it was a bit off to the left as far as i'm concerned, no matter what the goal of the Kevins was....
